Points of Pride

2024-2025 Points of Pride

1st Point of Pride: Soccer County & Metro Champions

Jonesboro Middle School’s Mighty Bears soccer team achieved an incredible milestone this season, winning both the Clayton County Championship and the Metro Atlanta Championship. This outstanding accomplishment highlights the dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship of our student-athletes and coaches.

This victory has brought a renewed sense of pride and excitement to our entire school community. It has strengthened school spirit, inspired younger students to get involved in athletics, and reinforced the value of hard work and perseverance. The team’s success is a shining example of what JMS students can achieve through commitment and collaboration, and it continues to motivate all of us to aim high—both on and off the field.

2nd Point of Pride: Community Schools

In 2025, Jonesboro Middle School’s Community Schools program organized a Wellness Fair that brought together students, families, and community partners. Students demonstrated STEM-based cooking skills, while attendees participated in yoga sessions, received health checks, and gained access to information about physical and mental health services. The initiative also included partnerships with local organizations to provide food distributions for the Jonesboro community and ongoing efforts to expand the school’s Clothing Closet.

The Community Schools initiative has strengthened the connection between school and community by providing essential resources that support student well-being and family engagement. The Wellness Fair promoted student learning through hands-on STEM applications and encouraged healthy lifestyles for families. Regular food distributions have helped combat food insecurity, while the growing Clothing Closet ensures students have access to basic necessities—helping them feel confident and prepared for learning.

3rd Point of Pride: Mable Wyche Underwood & Laura Bush Foundation Grants Recipient, Ms. T’Jerria Green, MLIS for JMS Media Center

Jonesboro Middle School’s Media Center was selected as a recipient of the prestigious Mable Wyche Underwood Grant from the Georgia Library Media Association (GLMA). This grant supports school library media specialists in developing and implementing innovative programs that enhance the use of the library media center in instructional settings. Ms. T’Jerria Green used this grant project to focus on expanding STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, (Arts), and Mathematics) resources to better integrate cross-curricular learning and foster curiosity among students.

The Laura Bush Foundation for America's Libraries is dedicated to supporting school libraries, particularly in low-income schools, by providing grants to help them expand, update, and diversify their book collections.

The Mable Wyche Underwood Grant has made a significant impact by allowing Ms. T’Jerria Green to enhance the collection with a wide range of STEM-focused titles, which are now featured on the newly created “STEAM Wall of Books.” This initiative has sparked increased student interest in STEM subjects, providing resources that support classroom instruction and encourage independent exploration. Teachers have incorporated these materials into their lessons, promoting critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity across disciplines. The project has also reinforced the Media Center’s role as a dynamic hub of learning, collaboration, and discovery within JMS.

For the upcoming 2025–2026 school year, Ms. T’Jerria Green plans to use the Laura Bush Foundation grant to diversify the school library collection in the JMS media center with more popular selections of books, including books for the #BEARSREAD book club.

4th Point of Pride: 3rd Place Regional Science Fair Winners

Three outstanding Jonesboro Middle School students—Kierra Ponder, Alina Vo, and Iliana Morales—earned 3rd place at the Regional Science and Engineering Fair with their innovative project in the category of Cellular and Molecular Biology. Their research focused on exploring biological processes in fruits, showcasing their curiosity, critical thinking, and dedication to scientific inquiry.

This achievement highlights the academic excellence and STEM engagement fostered at JMS. Kierra, Alina, and Iliana’s success serves as an inspiration to their peers and reflects the strength of our science curriculum and teacher support. Their accomplishment encourages a culture of exploration and academic pride, demonstrating what students can achieve with creativity, teamwork, and a passion for learning.

5th Point of Pride: Track Winners

Jonesboro Middle School’s track team had a phenomenal season, with standout performances from both our boys and girls athletes. Major winners this year included Deon Lockett and James Bailey on the boys team. On the girls team, Jada Holmes, Ashley Durden, Dizaiyah Reeves, Sanai Thornton, Tiana Houser, Aarieona Taylor, ZaRiyah Robinson, and Skylar King (discus) all brought home top honors in their events.

This season’s success has filled JMS with pride and excitement, celebrating the dedication and talent of our student-athletes. Their achievements showcase the strength of our athletic program and highlight the importance of teamwork, commitment, and school spirit. These victories have inspired more students to get involved in sports and continue to push themselves toward excellence both on and off the track.
