Dear Parents and Guardians of English Language Learners,

Your child is scheduled to complete the English proficiency test, known as the ACCESS from January 30, 2024- February 9, 2024. The test will consist of 4 sections: Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, and be administered in that order. This test will determine if your child will no longer need ESOL classes, and is proven to be proficient in English. In order to exit, your child must score at least a 4.3 (Unless changes are made by the state department).

The test is mandatory for students who have a Parent Waiver as well. We set the expectation with your child and encouraged them to have 100% attendance during this time, and to reschedule any trips or doctor's appointments. Students who attend each day, with no absences will be rewarded with a pizza party and other rewards provided by the ESOL teachers and JMS administration.

Below are tips to prepare your child for the ACCESS test:

1. Get a good night's sleep and a healthy breakfast.

2. Prepare for each section by paying attention in class and participating in assignments to prep for the test.

3. Complete activities online in IXL using their Chromebook.

4. Take their time and do not rush during the test.

We are excited to see how much their hard work and dedication will help them perform on the ACCESS test. We thank you for your support during the school year!
